Michelle Yeoh is honored with the inaugural TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award from the Toronto International Film Festival.

According to a press release from the festival, the award recognizes a woman who is a leader in the film industry and who has positively impacted women throughout her career.

Ms. Yeoh, who has received the best reviews of her career for her performance in the latest absurdist comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once, will be honored at an in-person fundraising gala at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on September 11 at the 47th edition of the film festival.

“Michelle Yeoh is the definition of groundbreaking. Her screen work spans continents, genres and decades. That year, she delivered a performance that showcased her limitless skills on Everything Everywhere All at Once. We are so proud to honor her with the Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award,” said Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF, in a statement.

In her four-decade career, Ms. Yeoh has established herself as one of the most versatile actresses in world cinema, thanks to her performances in films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies, Memoirs of a Geisha and Crazy Rich Asians “.

Ms. Yeoh was recently announced as the first Asian artist to receive the American Film Institute award and was named to this year’s Time 100 list of “Most Influential People.” She will also receive the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Kirk Douglas Award next February.

The 47th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) takes place from September 8th to 18th.
