The Election Commission has launched a campaign to link voter ID cards to Aadhar in several states. The polling station said the exercise is underway to establish the identity of voters and authentication of voter registration.
This comes months after Parliament passed the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021 to link voter roll data to the Aadhaar ecosystem.
The Electoral Commission has said that the process of linking the Aadhar card with the voter ID card will help detect a voter’s registration in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency . However, the polling panel did not make it mandatory to link Aadhar to the voter ID card, the Hindustan Times’ sister publication Live Hindustan reported.
