Bengaluru’s CAUSE Foundation presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat this weekend.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, Bengaluru’s CAUSE Foundation will stage, Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat over the weekend. Released in 1968, the classic musical was one of the first shows performed by The CAUSE Foundation in the year of its inception.

“This is the third time we’ve performed Joseph,” says Leila Alvares, Founder and Director of The CAUSE Foundation (Cooperation of the Arts for the Underprivileged in Society & Environment). “The first time, 25 years ago, we followed the script exactly, and the second time, we reinterpreted it a bit. For our third rendition, however, we took a lot of liberties with the way we depict it; all with consent, of course.”

“There’s a lot more spoofing this time around to make it more interesting and fun, but the music and lyrics stay the same as they can’t be changed,” she says, adding that her ideas for variations on the script came as she did her troop watched rehearse.

Leila says she feels blessed that her 35-strong cast is relatively young. “Over the years we’ve had members who have been with us for 10 years or more before leaving town for college or other jobs. On this show, my cast is almost 90% youth and first-time artists. Aside from a few cast members who have been there from the beginning, it’s almost like a fresh start.”

“One of The CAUSE Foundation’s goals is to nurture local talent and it’s a breath of fresh air to work with people who are enthusiastic, energetic and on the ball. I’m blessed to also have an extremely talented group of young musicians; My entire band has changed except for my bass guitarist who is now my drummer and music director.”

The cast includes some of the city’s well-known musical talents, including Rahael Thomas, Alapana Bagirath, Madhuri Braganza, Shyju Varkey, Arvind Kasthuri and Prem Koshy, among others. They are joined by Aashish Paul, choreographed by Ritu VK and directed by Elexer Fernandes.
