Charles also used his address to create his son and heir, Prince William, Prince of Wales and also Duke of Cornwall, the titles he previously held.

King Charles III said Friday “thank you” to his “beloved mother” Queen Elizabeth, who died Thursday at the age of 96 at her Balmoral castle in Scotland after reigning for 70 years. In his maiden speech to the UK and his Commonwealth realms, the 73-year-old King pledged to uphold the nation’s ‘constitutional principles’ as the Queen has done ‘with unwavering devotion’.

The king said he “counts on the loving assistance” of his wife Camilla, who becomes his queen consort “in recognition of her own loyal public service”. Charles also used his address to create his son and heir, Prince William, Prince of Wales and also Duke of Cornwall, the titles he previously held.

The 73-year-old monarch had recorded the address in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. His pre-recorded speech aired on TV at 10:30 p.m. IST.

“Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with fate kept and she is deeply mourned in her passing. This promise of service for life, I renew it to you today.”
