Anand Mahindra on Virat Kohli: “Real heroes will rise with the blows”

Industrialist Anand Mahindra was among those who celebrated Virat Kohli’s golden century against Afghanistan. The blow was, of course, special for Kohli. A player who at one point apparently scored centuries most, hasn’t been able to reach the triple-digit mark since November 2019. Until Thursday, when he launched into the attack of the Afghanistan to Dubai. The century concluded a rather successful Asian Cup campaign for Kohli, even though India were knocked out in the Super 4.

Kohli had struck two half centuries earlier in the tournament and was joint top scorer in the opener against Pakistan.

The Asian Cup came at a crucial time for Kohli. He was facing heavy criticism for a long stretch of lean form.

Anand Mahindra, after Kohli’s magnificent century, took to Twitter to hail his efforts.

“STAND UP! Real heroes roll with the punches and prove the naysayers wrong with just their actions…” he tweeted.

Kohli’s 122 unbeaten deliveries of 61 was his first century T20I and 71st in international cricket.

Hitting 12 fours and six sixes, Kohli also recorded the highest individual score by an Indian in the T20I.

His innings helped India reach a 212/2 aggregate after being batted by Afghanistan.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar then cast a magnificent spell to demolish Afghanistan’s best order, taking five wickets inside the first seven overs of the innings.

Their 5-4 spell, which included a maiden over, meant Afghanistan could only manage a modest 111/8 tally in their 20 overs, with India recording their biggest win in the format at the stick first.
